The Results

Basketball season has come to an end.  Tyrel and I sure loved playing and having the chance to play in the Championship games. Tyrel played excellent in his game. I actually think he was one of the only ones who actually pushed it hard the whole game.  Their team got down by fifteen or twenty pretty quick to start out.  Tyrel had some amazing back to back three point shots to bring them back within ten at the end of the first half.  I'm not sure what happened the beginning of the second half due to taking care of Julia, but the second half didn't go too well. All I know is at the end of the game Tyrel had some amazing steals and capitalized on some break away layups, but it their team was too far behind and there wasn't enough time on the clock to capture the win. I was sad for Tyrel.  I really wanted him to win, but he's a champion to me no matter what.  It was a lot of fun to see him grow both personally, and in skills this season. I'm super proud of him.  That's what BYU-Idaho basketball is all about.  Giving students the opportunity to grow and become better disciples of Christ.  It's crazy just how intertwined the Gospel is in every aspect of life!
My team was able to gain the victory. It was an intense game! My team came out pretty pumped and by the end of the first half we had a thirteen point lead.  Before the game I planned a really good pep talk complete with candy bars and conference talk quotes.  Apparently it worked.  The second half was a little different.  We started out pretty good, but soon the other team changed up their defense and our players weren't quite sure how to handle it.  A little frustration and fatigue seemed to be setting in.  I personally think there should have been more substitutions in second half (he made one whole sub), but my coach felt differently...(major bummer!). With under a minute to go we were down by 5 and I was sure we had lost. A time out was called and the plan was to have our best player, Jenny (amazing!), go to the hole and get fouled. Well, she went, made it, but wasn't fouled.  We were down by three. With over 35 seconds left on the clock, we knew we would get one more possession as long as we played hard defense.  We did and the ball was ours with 14 seconds left down by three. The other team planned to guard our two shooters, Jenny and Kori. Little did they know Kelly would bust out a three with 8 seconds left on the clock! The other team passed it in and with three seconds left their coach called a time out....a time out they didn't have....technical foul....Kelly shoots and makes both free throws. Game over. We WIN! I felt pretty bad for their coach, but it was awesome to win!
(Top L-R: April, Jenny, Rachel, Ariel, Erica, Coach Josh.  Bottom L-R: Kori, Kelly, Corynne, Suzi.)

So yeah, the're the results of the games. I think if I could have had Tyrel's team win and my team lose I would have taken it.  He really deserved it and I think my coach only played me for 5 minutes of my game, so it's not like I did a whole lot other than cheer and motivate. Still I also learned a lot this season and feel I've become a more positive person.  I love basketball at BYU-Idaho and both Tyrel and I can't wait to play again in the winter!

Basketball Championship!

Today is a big day here in the Salisbury life. Last night Tyrel scored a whopping 17 points to help take his team to the championship! It's been three semesters that he has played competitive basketball and almost three years of intramural sports and he is finally getting the chance to play in the "Big Dance". I'm pretty excited for him.  He's worked really hard this semester and has been a pretty key player on his team, so he definitely deserves it! But here is the best part...my team ALSO made it into the championship! So, at 3:00 and 5:30 we will both be playing for first place.  It's awesome. Julia told me this morning that she is pretty proud to have us as her parents.  She is our number one fan, and has been to every one of our games.  It's fun to have here there.  I think she likes basketball.  Most days she won't go more than an hour without at least a little fussing, but when we are at games she gets so distracted watching the players I don't think she thinks about being tired or hungry. There have only been a couple of games, where she is sitting farther away from the action, that she has fussed a little bit. I love to watch her little head move back and forth as she watches the players move from one side of the court to the other.

Well, that's the exciting news for today. I hope I can post some good news later about us winning.  Of course, it isn't all about winning...so they say! HA!

Here are some recent Julia pictures because a post just isn't a post without pictures!
This tired little girl loves her blanky from Aunt Lisa!

Her cute little skirt! Also, Julia loves her hands more than anything right now.  I'm pretty sure they are only out of her mouth long enough to rub them all over my arm and make me all sticky.

My Dad

Happy Father's day Dad! I have the greatest Dad, he is someone who has always given me the best advice that I have cherished and listened to very carefully. Tim Salisbury is someone that a lot of people say I look like and I am happy to say that I am grateful for this because my Dad is a good lookin 50 year old. Watching my Dad with Julia is an amazing sight, he is so loving and careful with her....that is until she starts crying and then for some reason she comes back to either me or Suzi...I am very grateful that I have had the chance to spend so much time with him while I was growing up; whether it was hunting, fishing, working out in the yard, or a plumbing side job I enjoyed every minute even if I acted otherwise and I would do anything to have those chances again. Which reminds me, Dad I am planning on going fishing with you on a Saturday morning that I am down. Dad I love you, I consider you one of my closest friends and I have never been ashamed calling you my father. I am so happy and amazed at how far you have come, I thank my Father Heaven that I have you for an example...your the best!

Memorial Day and Yellowstone

Here are some pictures from the last couple of fun adventures we have had. Memorial Day BBQ at Lisa's and Yellowstone with the Salisbury's/Lindstrom's...

Julia was looking super cute in her blue head headband.

In an attempt to become the "Cool Aunt" Lisa decided to give the little one's their first swinging experience.

Yellowstone was great.  We saw like 6 bears, elk, bison in the middle of the road, a wolf, a coyote, a moose, and all sorts of other animals. The two days were long for the little one, but she took it like a champ.  She only had a couple of moments where she couldn't handle the car seat any longer. Here she is with her little Binky imprint face.

Riding smokey the bear.
People in the gift shop couldn't get enough of cute little Julia.  Everyone that walked by would check her out.  Of course, look at Tyrel in that hat....maybe he is the one they were checking out.

Our little nephew David.  What a cutie! Spending a weekend with him makes us excited to have a little boy of our own one day...hopefully!

I really loved all of the waterfalls and geysers we stopped at along the way.  The animals are great, but for me this is the best part of Yellowstone.

Old Faithful...you did not let us down.  I think seeing Old Faithful is something every person in the Utah/Idaho area needs to experience.  I'm glad I can finally check this off on my list.  I would say Julia could too, but she fell asleep during the ten minute wait.

This is what Julia did 75% of the trip. I think I looked at this little animal more than the little animals outside of the car. That's probably why I was never the first person to spot anything.

My Top 5 So Far...

My Top 5 Motherly Moments
(In order of occurrence, not awesomeness particularly...)

1. Tyrel singing hymns to me during labor and bringing such a sweet Spirit into the room after the doctor told me I might need to have a C-section. Then seeing Tyrel first lay eyes on our little girl after said C-section.

2. Holding Julia for the first time.

3. Taking naps together.
4. Seeing her smile really start to develop.

5. Hearing her giggle for the first time!

The Quilt

The post Amy made on Your Life Uncommon about rag quilts reminded me that I wanted to show off my denim rag quilt.  A while back, Tam came to me with a big bag of all of Tyrel's old jeans.  It took me a while to get started on the project and it took nearly 9 months to complete, but I'm happy with the outcome...

I let Tyrel pick out the fabric for the back.  He chose "Old Utah Jazz" colors.  I think it was an awesome choice.
Some of the fun features
This is a close up of one of the patches.  I felt like the front of the quilt didn't have enough color so I threw these on there to tie in with the back.
This is a pocket I made out of a few different pockets.
So yeah, that's my quilt.  If you ever want to make your own quilt or have any questions about how I made mine, let me know and i will help you as best as I can.  Also, just a little shout out to my dad saying thanks for teaching me how to sew!

Mothers and Some Smiling

This is a two for one post...

Mothers:
I am grateful that I have been raised and nurtured by a Mom who  gave everything and wanted nothing in return. My Mom deserves anything that she desires, but I know she wouldn't want it if it meant her kids would miss out, or weren't included. She has been through the fire a few times and at those moments you think how will she come out on top, but then you see her walk out of the fire with a few burns and still smiling. Mom is beautiful in so many ways, she is smart, she is kind, she is full of charity, and she is always looking for ways to serve her kids (especially me). For those who are related to me and know that I am Mom's favorite it is because I am awesome and she knows it...and I watched many soap operas, reality shows, talk shows, etc with her, it wasn't what I was watching it was because I got to spend those quality moments with her. Mom I love you, thank you for your example, thank you for loving Suzi, and thank you for being an amazing Grandma to my sweet daughter.

Hey Mom!  I thought I would also take this chance to wish you a happy Mother's Day.  I hope you are happy and doing well.  You deserve the best.  As I've taken on this Motherhood journey, I see now just how much you have done for me in my life.  Thanks for all of the great advice during my pregnancy. When others were full of horror stories, you were always there to tell me how it's actually not that bad.  Also, thank you for having the type of genetic make-up that allowed you to not get morning sickness.  I'm sure glad that passed on to me.  Thanks for the sacrifices you made while I was young.  I know working outside the home isn't exactly what you wanted to do, but you did it and because you did I was able to play soccer and basketball. I'd also like to thank you for being a good teacher to me while I was a little tiny kid.  I will never forget the times we went to Blimpees and you would teach me how to spell words on napkins.  You are a good mom and a loving Grandma.  Thanks for loving us so much! (I stole this picture off facebook...haha)

Smiling:

They say that all the hard times with a baby are worth it when you see them smile...I'm going to have to agree with that statement.  No matter how long they are fussy, if they give you a little smile in the end you forget it all and joy fills your heart.  Julia is getting to the point where we can get her to smile by doing silly things.  I like to take the approach of speaking in a high, really excited voice and smiling an enormous smile.  I may look like a goof, but she loves it and that's all that matters.  Tyrel likes to play a little running game with her one the bed.  It consists of him holding her legs and making them move in a running fashion. She loves this!  She loves it so much that Tyrel almost got a giggle out of her.  I'm pretty sure the giggle will be showing up within the next few weeks.  I can't wait. This is a big land mark I have been waiting for.  First it was waiting for the smile, next was the giggle, and after that I can't wait until she can give me a hug.  I want a little baby hug so bad!  Well, without further ado, here's her little smiley face...

God commanded us to multiply and replenish so that we might have joy in our posterity....uh yeah...true and everlasting joy is right!

Babies....

I thought I would post our baby pictures for you guys to look at and compare.  We don't have a really young one of Tyrel, but I think you can still see there's some of him in our little one.

Ah! The power of sleep!

A good feeling....going to bed and not waking up again until the sun comes up. Julia slept through the night the last two nights.  Amazing.

Shots...

The two month doctor's appointment...
(Tummy time)
Needles and shots...every child's (and sometimes beyond childhood) worst fear. I remember the doctor's visit that I over came my childhood fear of needles. It was in preparation for high school soccer.  I had to get a physical and some special shot that someone up in the government decided all kids should get before the enter high school. All this so I could play soccer.  I was dreading the moment. Sitting in the waiting room, biting my nails, and trying to distract myself with a gossip magazine. They called my name, and I was up.  The shot was coming, there was no turning back.  The nurse puts on her gloves and unwraps the needle.  My deltoid flexes as she wipes me with the cold alcohol pad. "It's easier if you loosen up." she says. Easy for her to say since she is the one holding the needle. But I do as I'm told, I feel a pinch, and that was it.  It was over. I barely felt a thing.  My fear of needles was conquered as a teen.

Now it was time for me to watch my little girl get shots.  This thought came to me the day before the appointment and my heart filled with anxiety for Julia. We had to watch her get a heel prick a month or so back and it hurt my heart to see her cry in pain....given the delayed reaction was pretty funny, it was still hard to see her in pain. The night before her shooting appointment, I had a dream.  I can't remember all of the details, but it was something along the line of me jumping in front of Julia and taking the shot for her.  Oh how I wished that they could give me the shot and it would transfer to her via feeding. The time for the shooting appointment arrived.  I was sweaty-palmed in the waiting room as Julia just sat the joyfully looking around the room with her big bright eyes.  "She has no idea what's coming," I mentioned to Tyrel.  He of course told me I was more worried about this than she was and that she would forget about it soon after it happens.  I knew he was right, but I still dreaded the moment of hearing her cry.

When it came time for the shots, they put the first one in, delayed reaction, scream, no breath, two more shots, take a big breath, more screaming....hand her over to mom. I felt pangs of hurt in my heart for Julia, but her pain did not last long.  It wasn't even a minute before she stopped crying. What a champ!  The rest of the day she was very groggy and fussy, and not herself at all.  But now she is back to normal.

It was an interesting experience seeing Julia get her shots.  Much different than Henry's kindergarten shots story. But I learned something from the feelings I had that day. I wanted to take Julia's pain from her, but I couldn't. It was something she had to go through in order to be protected and stronger later on. The same is true with Heavenly Father in regards to me. He loves me so much, and doesn't want to see me hurt, but sometimes I need it. I now understand why people say you gain a greater understanding of God's love for you once you have your own children. I love Julia with a unique kind of love that can only be understood when you have your own children.  Basically, all I'm trying to say with this post is being a mom is awesome....even though you have to see your little one in pain sometimes.
